Yesterday was a momentous day in many ways. For starters, it was a big day because it marked a milestone in my treatment\u2014my last visit with my plastic surgeon until June 28. He removed the staples from the top of my head and checked everything and said it all looked good \u2014 that I no longer need to put lotion on my head and on my nose, and that we should take a break until after the next step, a course of radiation treatments five days a week for six weeks to wipe out any possible remnant cells of cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n

About no longer putting lotion on my head and the outer skin of my nose. \u2014 That\u2019s a big deal because I can wear my glasses again without Vaseline and antibiotic ointment all over them, and I’ll no longer get the greasy stuff all over everything my head touches. I put on a pullover sweatshirt for the first time in two months this morning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve started driving around town again in the last week, self-limited to in town only because I still tire out easily, so I don\u2019t want to drive on the freeway until I feel good and ready.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking of driving on the freeway, Gabi and I were driven to the doctor\u2019s appointment in Bellevue yesterday by a wonderful friend. We were in our car because theirs is a two-seater. A few minutes after leaving the doctor\u2019s office, our driver was changing lanes on I-405 when we were hit from behind by a truck. It ripped off the taillight and a hunk of the left bumper.<\/p>\n\n\n

Nobody was hurt, but we were all shaken by the experience. The Incident Response person who first arrived on the scene and the WA State Patrol officer did their jobs, and we were told that the car was safe to drive, so we were able to get home to Olympia. The accident has been reported to our insurance company, so now we\u2019re just hoping that they will do right by us.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
